If you have skin tags you have probably considered getting them removed. Although they are almost always painless they can be a bit of a nuisance to deal with, depending on their location. Skin tags are often found on the face, neck, groin, under your arms and breasts and on your eyelids. Sometimes they snag on clothing or jewelry, which is very painful to remove. Skin tags look like a hanging mole; they are often the same color as your skin but can be darker than your skin tone. The medical term for a skin tag is an acrochordon, which is characterized by being a small, soft, benign tumorous skin growth. Sometimes other skin ailments can mimic the appearance of a skin tag. If you are feeling any pain or bleeding from a skin tag you should consult your physician.
At-home removal of skin tags
Removing skin tags is possible. If you decide to use an at-home method of removal you can purchase a topical ointment to apply to the tag. There are varying opinions on whether or not this is a safe and effective method of removing tags. It should be noted that all topical skin tag removal creams, ointments or gels are sold over the counter. There are no prescription based solutions.
Dermatologists’ methods of skin tag removal
Most people who choose to have their skin tags removed see a doctor, normally a dermatologist to do so. The doctor will either snip off the tags with a pair of small scissors one-by one or use a cauterization method which literally means burning them off with an electrically heated tool after applying a local anesthetic. Both of these methods can be a little uncomfortable but the pain usually goes away right after the treatment. Another way that skin tags can be removed is by freezing them off by using liquid nitrogen or tying them off with a tiny sting, similar to floss. Tying them off cuts off the blood flow and in a few days the tag will just fall off. These are the most popular methods for removing the tags and work for most people with good results, although over time, in many cases, skin tags generally come back.
Laser surgery to remove skin tags
Another method of removing a skin tag is to have a laser treatment. A current is passed though the tag and vaporizes it. This is still a relatively new way to get rid of tags and it can be expensive. Because skin tags are considered more of a nuisance than a danger, removing them is considered by most insurance companies to be cosmetic and therefore it is not generally covered.
Skin tags can be removed, with a number of different methods. If your skin tags are causing you discomfort or even embarrassment you should consider getting them removed.

Identity, one of the major components of who we are is crucial to our being. When parents decide to reflect their heritage in the name they choose for their baby they should proceed with tenacity. Because we are proud of our heritage, as we should be, we also want to be aware of societal considerations that may affect our choice. We all probably agree that it shouldn’t make a difference, but in reality a difference is made. Be prepared to provide your child with information which will honor their cultural history. Our ancestry and origin is reflected in a name that reflects our heritage, what a proud badge we wear when we honor our ancestors.
