Five Vegan Coffee Drinks To Try Today

Whether you’re slamming cups of coffee in order to meet a fast-approaching deadline or you’re savoring all the pleasures and mood-enhancing effects of the caffeinated beverage while catching up with old friends, it’s indisputable that coffee plays an integral role in modern society.

Consumed in its most unadulterated state, a full-flavored and fair trade cup of joe soothes the soul as well as the conscience. Still, there are times when the coffee drinker prefers to jazz up their beverage with various ingredients to create a luscious medley of adrenaline-pumping nectar. One of the most common methods of altering coffee’s flavor profile is with the addition of milk.

While cow’s milk is the most common additive in coffeehouses and private homes, increasingly varied diets and a rising vegetarian/vegan population requires the implementation of alternate milk sources. The following five coffee drinks can be taken from the traditional to the vegan-friendly with nary an iota of deliciousness lost:

A Morning Espresso is “Soy” Essential
What greater accompaniment to the quintessential Sunday brunch than a perfectly steamed cappuccino? This concoction calls for one part espresso – a strong, concentrated coffee – to one part steamed milk topped with a lavish blanket of milk foam. For a simple vegan version, trade out the cow’s milk for soy milk and you will be brunching in style.

Chocolate Heals All (Emotional) Wounds
Caffe mocha? Yes, please! You can prepare an ultra-decadent version sans any animal product by replacing the standard milk offering with smooth and creamy coconut milk. Begin with espresso, chocolate syrup and steamed coconut milk. Follow up with whipped cream. Due to coconut milk’s high fat content, it whips wonderfully into a sumptuous topping for your caffe mocha.

Nuts for Latte
A variation of the cappuccino that calls for more steamed milk and less milk foam, the latte becomes vegan-approved when cow’s milk is substituted with almond milk. Almond milk is a low-calorie, highly nutritive alternative that adds a whole “latte” flavor. Try Tassimo coffee for a great tasting blend.

Rice Over Macchiato
The espresso macchiato is meant to be a strong, hearty drink with the recipe calling for one shot of espresso topped with a touch of milk foam. Since rice milk has a naturally subtle flavor, it allows the espresso flavor to properly shine.

Cooling Down in the Summertime
Rounding out the vegan-friendly coffee beverages is the star of summer: coffee and milk over ice. A matter of preference, the ratios in this refreshing and eye-opening drink are purely at the discretion of the consumer, as is the type of milk used to elevate it to vegan status.

Planning A Family Centered Vacation

A website called Parenting Clan can help you decide on how to plan a vacation, even if you’ve got one of those nerdy or geeky kids!

My Kid’s A Geek!

If your kid would rather work on a science project than celebrate the 4th of July in a historical location, there’s good news for both of you. There are plenty of occasions for the two of you to celebrate together that will actually appeal to a nerdy child. Just a few are: National Metric Week, October 7 through the 13th; the World Science Festival, May 30 through June 3; and DNA Day, April 20.

But They Have An Arcade!

Of course you can seldom go wrong with any location that has an arcade or water park. And be sure that during travel time your child has something to do. Portable DVD players, handheld video games, vans with DVD players and screens for the back seat, iPads; all are good distractions. And be sure to stay at a nice place and tip those poor housekeepers well for cleaning up after your children so you don’t have to.
Few things inspire eye rolling of such a severe nature as the mention of taking a family vacation. Though they may resist and complain chances are they will remember it fondly in later years.

Smokey Mountain Bowling Fun

Is bowling really a big deal in the Smokey Mountains? Ask anyone belonging to the Smokey Mountain USBC Association, Inc.

Bowling Makes The News

A newspaper in the area recently ran an article on how bowling can mean fun for the whole family… even on a budget. A couple of bowling alleys are in nearly every town so there isn’t a problem finding your local alley. You don’t even have to own bowling balls or the special shoes because (as almost everyone knows) you can use the balls belonging to the alley and rent a pair of shoes. The selection of balls is usually for both youngsters and adults alike.

Time To Party Down

You may even want to consider having your next get together at a bowling alley. Frequently there are arcades, bars and food available so there’s a little something for everyone. Children’s parties are even great at a bowling alley. Bumpers can be set up in the gutters so that every kid hits the pins. No gutter balls in Bumper Bowling!
Computerized scorekeeping means it’s easy, it’s good exercise, it teaches sportsmanship, it’s fun and it is a great way for family and friends to enjoy themselves and each other.

Prepping Your Patio for Warm Weather Entertaining

Warm weather, it’s something that we all look forward to, especially in the dead of winter. Once the weather does start getting warmer across the country something that many home owners look forward to is using their patios for warm weather entertaining.

Got A Pressure Washer?

One of the best ways to clean a patio is to use a pressure washer. There are many pressure washers available that you can rent from your local equipment rental store. Most companies will let you rent for the day but for best results it may be better to rent it for the weekend so you have the time to do the job right.

After you bring it home you will find that a pressure washer is very easy to use and it’s a tool that you can use to clean your patio or any other area of your home in under an hour.

What’s Underneath the Grime?

After you used the pressure washer to blast away the dirt and grime, the next step is to inspect the surface of the patio. You may find that in many cases the dirt and grime has concealed cracks and other damages underneath that need to be repaired.
