Don’t Want to Pass Out Candy? Create a Haunted House Instead

Every Halloween many people in the United States will be planning on passing out candy to people who are trick or treating, like they do every single year. If you’re thinking about doing the traditional thing of passing out candy but are trying to think of something different to add to your routine, you should try creating a haunted house.

How to Create a Great Haunted House

Before going all out this Halloween and creating a haunted house that rivals the home of Michael Meyers or Freddy Kruger, make sure that you take into account the ages of the people who will be visiting. The appropriate age for a haunted house that everyone can enjoy is PG instead of Rated R.

Supplies You Will Need

Cardboard – For creating center pieces, tombstones, placemats and cutouts of creepy animals.

Paper bags – These are excellent for creating placemats and adding an extra air of creepiness to any haunted house.

Fake Cob Webs – You can buy the materials that you need to make fake cob webs at any party supply store.

Accessories – Every haunted house needs fake spiders and creepy bugs. You can find plenty of creepy little bugs at stores like Walmart, Kmart and Target.

Scary music – Your haunted house should have plenty of moans and groans when visitors arrive. You can download the right sound effects for free from the internet and have them ready for Halloween.

Lighting – The key to creating a great haunted house is all about the lighting, make sure that your haunted house has plenty of eerie lighting by changing out regular light bulbs with red or blue light bulb. You can also add a creepy element to your indoor lighting by creating light shades out of construction, paper bags, etc.

Haunted House Theme

Before randomly creating a haunted house, make sure that you know what the theme of your haunted house is going to be. Is each room of your house going be haunted or only a few rooms? Remember that sometimes less is more when it comes to haunted houses. You can make it super creepy by adding only a few creepy elements to a room and then leave the rest up to your guest’s imagination. Make sure that no matter which costumes for Halloween that come through they don’t get snagged on your creation.
