Taking the PMP exam may be one of the most nerve-racking experiences of your life. With nine knowledge areas and five process groups, retaining all the information you need to pass the exam is sure to feel overwhelming. However, there is a fine art to passing the exam – an art that relies more than just on luck, on guessing, or on always knowing the correct answer – it’s knowing how to take the exam and having an exam-taking strategy that will truly help you pass the PMP exam.
Study Solutions for the PMP Exam
The most popular and proven study solution is using note cards to help with memorization of facts and terms. Simply write a question or term on one side of the note card, flip it over, and write the answer. Put all of the note cards in a pile, and quiz yourself with them. When you get a question right, place that note card in one pile; when you get a question wrong, place it in another pile. Continue going through the “wrong” pile until all the cards have been placed in the “right” pile. This allows you to concentrate just on the information you are still confused about, while eliminating those areas you have already mastered. This saves a lot of time.
Text-Taking Strategies
Just as important as knowing the material is in knowing the style of the exam. Imagine only knowing the facts you have studied in the way that you have studied them – if questions arise that are worded differently, or that require you to view a topic in a different way than you are used to – no matter how hard or long you have studied, it’s going to be tricky to answer. Yet, if you know how the test is designed and you are used to questions such as these, you’ll have a much better chance at choosing the correct answer. The key is to take practice tests again and again. Know how the test is set up. Develop an intuition for how the answers are chosen for the questions. This, combined with the actual knowledge you have learned, is a sure way to pass the PMP exam, CISSP exam, or any exam at all.
