The Smoky Mountains is one of the most beautiful and scenic areas in the world. Many people come to this part of the United States to experience the beauty of the area and enjoy the rich history that it has to offer.
For those families who are fortunate enough to live in the Smoky Mountains it can be a little difficult when children reach the age when they are ready to drive. Unlike other parts of the country, it’s not easy taking a new driver out on the Smoky Mountains to drive unless they have some driving experience under their belt first, or better yet, have them get a Permit Practice Test.
Start Slow
Before taking your child out to drive somewhere in the Smoky Mountains it’s important to make sure they’ve grasped the basics of driving before taking them out on the roads. Make sure that they have fully read the DMV handbook before getting behind the wheel. One they are ready to start practicing it’s best to find a secluded street that you can take your child and teach them the basics of driving like: starting the vehicle, taking off, stopping, turning corners safely, using turn signals, crossing intersections etc.
Have Patience
It takes patience and time to teach a child to drive. Don’t try and rush your child through the basics of operating a motor vehicle before you feel comfortable that they have mastered the basics of the road because their life and the lives of their passengers could be at stake.
Once your child feels comfortable behind the wheel and you think they are ready to start driving around the Smoky Mountains it’s best to take them to have a plan for taking them out on different inclines and during different weather conditions. The roads are going to be a lot different in the summer months than they will be in the winter months so it’s best that they gain the road experience and feel comfortable behind the wheel during all types of weather conditions.
